Social Optics

Story

In a world where social communication is essential, Social Optics stands as a beacon of hope, dedicated to equipping teenagers with a communication toolkit for social-emotional well-being.

Guided by a mission to improve perspectives, problem-solving abilities, and communication skills, Social Optics strives to make the journey of adolescence a little less challenging, particularly for individuals with autism and neurological differences.

Mission

Social Optics is focused on helping teenagers live their best lives. They do this by helping them improve:

  • Perspective: Teaching a framework to make sense of social situations using direct instruction.

  • Problem Solving: Empowering students to make informed choices and understand potential outcomes.

  • Communication: Fostering meaningful connections, opening opportunities, and boosting well-being.

Background

Our journey with Social Optics began with a shared vision of building on a web app that would not only enhance the lives of teenagers but also improve the quality of education for those who think differently.

Social Optics originally functioned as a web app with a focus on aiding teenagers in understanding the complexities of social interactions.

However, recognizing the need for growth and improvement, Social Optics approached Walturn with a clear goal: to evolve the platform into a comprehensive and user-friendly tool that could cater to a wider audience.

Scope of Work

1. Authentication Enhancement

Challenge: Social Optics initially relied solely on Clever for user authentication. This limitation hindered access for many potential users.

Solution: We introduced email and Google login functionality, ensuring that a broader range of students, teachers, and administrators could easily access the platform.

2. Rostering Optimization

Challenge: Adding and managing individual users, teachers, and district administrators was cumbersome, leading to inefficiencies in platform usage.

Solution: Walturn streamlined the process by implementing a robust rostering system, allowing for both individual and bulk creation of user accounts, making it easier for educators and administrators to manage their students and classes efficiently.

3. User Interface and Experience Enhancement

Challenge: The existing UI/UX was in need of a makeover to create a more engaging and user-friendly environment.

Solution: We revamped the UI/UX, ensuring that users would have an enjoyable and intuitive experience while navigating the platform. The new design incorporated engaging elements reminiscent of anime, aligning with the platform's fun and educational atmosphere.

4. Slide Builder Feature Upgrade

Challenge: The slide builder feature needed enhancement to support more engaging content, such as the integration of YouTube videos.

Solution: We improved the slide builder, giving users the ability to seamlessly integrate YouTube videos into their lessons. This enhancement added a dynamic and interactive element to the learning experience.

5. CRUD Tables Implementation

Challenge: Managing user data and classes was complicated without proper data organization.

Solution: Walturn implemented Create, Read, Update, and Delete (CRUD) tables for users, classes, sections, and more, simplifying data management for administrators and educators.

6. AI-Driven Reports

Challenge: Social Optics sought to provide personalized insights through AI-generated reports.

Solution: Walturn integrated AI-driven reporting capabilities, enabling the platform to collect and analyze data on students' understanding of communication fundamentals. These insights were made accessible to students, teachers, administrators, and parents through individual dashboards.

7. Code Quality Enhancement

Challenge: Maintaining code quality was vital for long-term sustainability and scalability.

Solution: We diligently enhanced the codebase, ensuring it met the highest quality standards to facilitate future updates and improvements.

8. Notification System Implementation

Challenge: A notification system was essential to keep users informed about important updates and events.

Solution: Walturn developed a notification system that would deliver timely and relevant information to users, enhancing their overall experience and engagement.
