NYU Dental radiology app

The New York University College of Dentistry is the third oldest and largest dental school in the United States. Walturn is super proud to have built an iPad Application for use by the college’s faculty and students

NYU Dentistry

Client

NYU College of Dentistry has nearly 1,900 students in its various pre-and postdoctoral programs from all over the United States and 40 foreign countries. The college conducts an extensive continuing education program and is home to the only dental school-affiliated dental hygiene program in New York State.

Challenge

New York University College of Dentistry conducts a broad range of activities that includes didactic and clinical courses for undergraduate dental students, Pathology and Radiology courses for both dental hygiene students and postgraduate students.

Their goal was to develop the dental student’s knowledge and skill in comprehensive patient evaluation and diagnosis in preparation for treatment planning so that they develop treatment plans that address existing problems as well as disease prevention and health promotion.

Thus, they needed an application that would provide hands-on experience to dental students in carrying oral healthcare and also give examinations.

Features

  • Dental Students and professors can use the app to conduct patients’ oral checkups, and the app will display their teeth radiograph in high quality which would enable them to study dental anomalies, pathology, and anatomy

  • Students are able to login via their University email ids and get access to the app and its features

  • An appealing user dashboard appears as students login to the app. App feature sets are displayed on the dashboard including profile buttons, cases, landmarks, and Full Mouth Series (FMS) X-rays. Users have to answer a series of questions about FMS, landmarks, and cases. They can track their progress and have the ability to answer questions over time (progress is not lost)

  • Students are able to access dental radiology cases which would help them in conducting dental checkups and preparing for their exams

  • Students have to answer 50 questions that appear on the screen. For example, they would be asked to locate the wisdom teeth on the teeth x-ray appearing on their screen. Students are able to draw on their screens.

What are People Saying?

Walturn has partnered with the College of Dentistry at New York University since 2017 when we started the development of an innovative mobile application for interpretation skills in dental radiology. Through a multi-year collaboration process, we have come to realize the enormous value that Walturn can provide to those of us working to improve healthcare education through a systematic and thoughtful process of software design and engineering. This is a key partnership we expect to maintain for years to come.”
